The first month of school is filled with chaos for students, for teachers, and for staff alike. Betwixt the commotion, lies individuals who show integrity in times of great stress. The Student of the Month program is used to recognize and reward students who present these qualities. Being so, we are presented with the first group of students of the school year, Students of the Month for August: (From top left to right, and bottom left to right. Last one in separate photo) Kamryn Lane, Reagan Harrell, Dylan Mullis, Duntay Rockwell, Zizi Ohamadike, Kamryn Gillham, Melanie Lawrence, Shelby Bennett, Maggie Nguyen, Eddie Belcner, Alicia Rosa, and Lexi Blitch.

All of the students recognized for the month of August, on the 4th of September, were called to the Media Center where they would retrieve the spoils of the actions (Skittles and assorted candy) and take a picture that would be put upon display for all to see (in the Newspaper).

Our reporters were, as they say, on the case! Abby Giles and Malica Casey arrived on scene, taking pictures and taking notes. However, school was still in session, 7th period to be exact, and, in haste, the students retreated quickly to their academic schedules. As a result, the journalist were not able to take a high amount of quotes from the students, however, some were acquired.

One of the students apart of the monthly ceremony, also one of the Ninth Muse’s own, Maggie Nguyen, stayed long enough for us to interview, says with enthusiasm, “I am really surprised, and it is a great honor to have [to be student of the month]…and I get candy, so that’s awesome.”

Another student, by the name of Kamryn Gillham, says, “It is an honor to be in the league of the first Student of the Months.”

It was quite enjoyable to not only report on the event, but to see the students’ smiles and smirks as they had their picture taken and gathered their rewards. And those of you who would also like to be recognized, there is hope yet. A student is chosen every month, and anyone with the proper behavior could be among the handful of chosen students.
