This year, in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, Kayla Luckie and Danielle Roberts are having their 4th Annual Buddy Walk.
The Buddy Walk is an event to show awareness for Down Syndrome. This event not only shows awareness, they also use the funds they raise to create items for the mothers of Down Syndrome children. This includes things like information packets and welcome bags filled with baby items to congratulate the mother for her baby, which is not often done.
There are many different things that are done at the Buddy Walk. The first thing is the one mile walk. We then spend the rest of time having a fair type of set up with games all over the place! You buy the tickets, which you use to play games. The tokens you win from the games can be redeemed to get prizes. They also recently, at Legacy Park, put in a playground for the kids.
Last year, I volunteered and it was almost life-changing. Just to see the expressions on the kids’ faces made me smile. I would pay anything to see those same expressions again.
In the years past, this event has gotten better every year in the outcome of people, the game booths, and just in general.
