9th grade is tough. Period. It’s challenging, rigorous, and definitely hard. Despite this, it’s honestly been one of the best years of my life. I have made so many new friends, met so many great people, and tried so many new things. There is not one day that goes by that I don’t enjoy. Even though it is very fun, it is also stressful. I have received many questions from frantic, upcoming 9th graders. Here are a few:
1. Q: Should I take all honors?
A: Yes. Definitely.
2. Q: What’s the best class to take?
A: Journalism. It strengthens your writing and builds friendships. Best class of the day, without a doubt.
3. Q: What is your favorite class?
A: As previously stated, Journalism is great.
4. Q: Are all honors and AP too much?
A: No. It will be tough, but if you’re doing all honors, go ahead and take AP. I regret not taking it. It will help more in the long run.
5. Q: I’ve heard honors biology is hard. Is it?
A: Yes. If I’m gonna be honest, it’s the hardest class I’ve ever taken. But it is worth it. There will be long nights and lots of studying, but take the class. It will help.
6. Q: What’s different about high school than middle school?
A: Everything. It’s a huge change. But honestly, it’s a great change. More freedom, less fights, more work, less drama, etc.
7. Q: What’s the best part about 9th grade?
A: Journalism. Without a doubt.
8. Q: What’s the worst part about 9th grade?
A: You cannot procrastinate anything. My middle name was procrastination so this was difficult for me to learn.
9. Q: What’s the worst class?
A: In my opinion, there is no “worst class.” There is a chance to learn something in each class.
10. Q: Do we still have the Milestones Test?
A: It depends on the class. Literature, Biology, and Math have Milestones at the end of the year. You will have Mid-Terms and Student Learning Objective Tests (SLOs) in everything else. Which are for grades. Major grades. Study, study, study.
Don’t stress about 9th grade. It’s great. Just look forward to it. It will be a wonderful year.
