Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner! Excitement for presents and foods is overwhelming! While it is awesome to receive gifts and eat delicious food, there are more than enough people around the world who are struggling to earn a tiny bit of money to have food.
There are many ways to help people in need. For example volunteering at the local soup kitchen or helping out at Habitat for Humanity. Sometimes as people, we can overlook the needs of others around us. Another way to help could be to go to a local Nursing Home and sing Christmas Carols. The elderly at nursing homes may never get visitors and singing could be a great way to lift their spirits. For Thanksgiving, you could go and just listen to the stories some of the elders tell even if it’s only for half an hour.
The little things like listening or volunteering could put a huge impact on someone’s life. There are ways to help that don’t involve interacting with people because for some it’s uncomfortable. There are Toys For Tots, which is a charity that gives toys to children who are less fortunate. All that is required to do is to purchase a toy, keep it in the package, and drop it at a local Toys For Tots box. Another charity is Christmas Shoeboxes. Local churches will put small items like a deck of cards or a small coloring book with crayons in a shoebox and pay to have it shipped to Africa.
Any way to help others will not only help them but will help you, too! Giving is so much better than receiving! You will feel like a better person.
